Makuutu Rare Earths Project is an ionic adsorption clay (IAC) hosted rare earth element (REE) deposit, located 120km east of Kampala in Uganda. It covers three (3) districts of Bugweri, Bugiri and Mayuge in Eastern Uganda. Uganda’s National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) has approved the company’s Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the project. The Makuutu REE Project plans to commence with a small-scale Proof of Concept (PoC) Demonstration Plant scheduled for commissioning in May 2023. This will extract REE from 5,000 tonnes of representative Ionic Adsorption REE Clay ore. Information obtained from this trial will inform final design decisions and confirm REE recoveries.
