In March 2023, Tenvicon was subcontracted by Suez Consulting (France) to support, “Developing Affordable Housing in Uganda: Market study in Greater Kampala Metropolitan area (GKMA) and support for regulatory framework and tools structuration” financed by AFD. This assignment comprises two components carried out in two phases. The first and priority phase is an affordable housing market study covering Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area proposing an efficient, synthetic and targeted affordable housing sectorial diagnosis (public policies and regulatory framework, stakeholders including private sector, value chain supply), that would bring out strengths and weaknesses of the sector. It covers the following aspects:
- Qualification & quantification of demand for AH (depth of market for AH, income levels of
- households, demand for different types of tenure, demand for housing typologies)
- Characterization of existing supply of AH (main actors in the market including informal sector,
- quality of design and construction, cost structure, location etc.)
- Housing production value chain (source and availability of construction material, main players
- in the market, bottlenecks)
- Institutional, regulatory, financial gap analysis.
The scope of services by Tenvicon was as follows:
- Conducting 90 households surveys in Katwe and Nansana (study areas), including:
- pre-survey and pre-test,
- survey data input and data analysis,
- Supporting conducting Focus Group Discussion and Transect walk in each of the study areas
